COAL-TO-LIQUIDS
COALTION THANKS SENS. THOMAS AND BUNNING FOR COMMITMENT TO U.S. ENERGY SECURITY
Washington, D.C. – The
Coal-to-Liquids Coalition (CTLC), a broad coalition of energy producers,
consumers and labor unions, today thanked Sens. Craig Thomas (R-Wyo.) and Jim Bunning
(R-Ky.) for their efforts to boost American energy security using
domestically made ultra-clean coal-to-liquid (CTL) transportation fuels.
Bunning and Thomas offered an
amendment to legislation before the Senate Energy and Natural Resources
Committee that would have included CTL fuels in a new bio-fuel mandate that
calls on the U.S. to use 21 billion gallons of bio-fuels annually by
2022.
“Senators Bunning and Thomas,
along with the nine other committee members who supported the amendment, clearly
understand that Congress must take bold action to jumpstart the production
of domestic CTL fuels and put America on a path towards energy
independence,” said Kraig R. Naasz, president and CEO of the National
Mining Association, a coalition member. “CTL fuels offer
America significant economic, security and environmental gains, and the
CTLC looks forward to working with Senators Bunning and Thomas and their
colleagues on adding CTL provisions to the bill when it comes before the
full Senate.”
